28 Best Tech and Gaming Deals: LG G6, Roomba, Vizio, Apple

WIRED

Labor Day will likely bring some good laptop deals, but this weekend there are some tech and gaming deals you should give a looksie. We've sorted wheat from the chaff with some help from TechBargains. We like Vizio's full-featured M-Series displays. This TV is enormous and the picture quality won't disappoint. The only downside to a Vizio is that it doesn't have a TV tuner in it, so you can't get over-the-air antenna signals, but if you stream or use cable, you're all set.

The Top 10 Gadgets of 2017

TIME - Tech

Technology companies like Apple, Samsung, Microsoft and more are constantly finding new ways to improve their cutting-edge products, whether it's with stunning new hardware designs, useful software improvements, or by coming up with entirely new products we didn't even know we wanted. When it comes to new gadgets and gizmos, 2017 was the year of several big changes. First and foremost, it was the year of the voice-activated assistant, with devices like the Amazon Echo and Google Home invading homes everywhere. It was also the year that smartphone designers figured out how to pack a massive screen in a device that's still easy to hold, as seen in the iPhone X and Samsung Galaxy S8. And it was the year that consoles like the Nintendo Switch meant gaming on the go no longer meant making big sacrifices in terms of game quality.

This is why the Nintendo SNES Classic will be another holiday hit

USATODAY - Tech Top Stories

Go old-school in a new, cool way, with 21 games. Everything old is new again. Last year, Nintendo launched the NES Classic, a miniature version of its first video game console, which hit the U.S. in 1985. And we couldn't get enough. The NES Classic was impossible to find, pushing many owners to try to reap a profit on eBay.

SNES Classic Edition review: Worth it for the games alone

Engadget

The success of last year's NES Classic Edition clearly took Nintendo by surprise. The company was completely incapable of meeting demand, leaving many people unable to buy what became the must-have gift of the holiday season. Now Nintendo has given its SNES the Classic Edition treatment and promises it's going to build way more than it did last year. Having grown up with the SNES (OK, we had a Sega Genesis and my best friend had SNES), it's easy to assume that everyone knows what it is and why people are so excited that it's back. After dominating the 8-bit era with the NES, Nintendo came late to the party with its sequel. The SNES launched in '90 in Japan, '91 in the US and '92 in the UK. The Genesis had a two-year head start in almost every country, but Nintendo's second-generation home console was worth the wait.

The NES Classic is making a comeback this summer

USATODAY - Tech Top Stories

Go old-school in a new, cool way, with 21 games. This is not a drill: the NES Classic will return to stores next year. On Tuesday, Nintendo announced it will again start selling the miniature version of its original video game console next summer, after it boomed in popularity last holiday season. The mini-console features 30 games from the original Nintendo Entertainment System built into the device. Titles include Donkey Kong and the first Super Mario Bros.

Nintendo 64 Classic: Is An Updated N64 Console Coming Soon?

International Business Times

Retro consoles are a popular option for video game companies right now, especially after Nintendo's recent NES Classic and Super NES Classic reboots. But could Nintendo be dipping back into the well for a third time for a Nintendo 64 Classic? In Europe's Intellectual Property Office, Nintendo recently filed for four trademark applications on controller design icons. Three of the icons are for the Nintendo Switch, original Nintendo and Super Nintendo controllers, but as NeoGAF pointed out, a fourth application is for the Nintendo 64 controller. While the icons themselves might not seen notable, analysts are interested because of where they're often applied. More importantly, these icons have previously been used as branding on recent Nintendo console packing.

Atari's 'Ataribox' Is a Bunch of Pretty Pictures Wrapped Around a Promise

TIME - Tech

There's nothing really to see at this point -- just some stylish snaps of a lovingly pedestrian-looking console. But they're being tendered as proof that Atari (yes, that Atari) is getting into the retro-console game with something dubbed an Ataribox. The company slipped the new pictures into a newsletter teasing an exclusive first look at the console's throwback design. Atari's toe in nostalgic gaming's money-printing waters, teased in a late spring video, is a pint-sized vamp on its Atari 2600, the 1977 video games console that more or less defined the term and set the table for the likes of Nintendo, Sega, Sony and beyond. It's got the same walnut veneer fronting black plastic ribbing, with its upward-sloping back evocative of the 2600's angled cartridge loader. Atari says the front panel can be wood or glass (customizable?), and that it has indicator lights which illuminate through the material.

Here's what Nintendo needs to do to make the SNES Classic great

Engadget

Before Nintendo unveiled the Switch, its new hybrid game console, to the world, it re-released an old one. The NES Classic Edition was an adorably small box of nostalgia packed with some of the best games for Nintendo's original home console. Now, the company is doing it again -- on September 29th, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System Classic Edition will put games like The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Donkey Kong Country and Mega Man X back in the living room. Hopefully, it'll do that while improving on the faults of Nintendo's first throwback machine. Truth be told, there wasn't a lot wrong with the NES Classic Edition.
